The Birds Don't Care

Return to Poems

To paint this picture you need turbulent white waves.
Let the waves crash and shatter over crying brown rocks.
Take a shiny black bird and make it sit unperturbed
over a hissing mottled snake.
Let a bright fluttering be a white dove
taking flight over a placid, metallic pool.
It sounds like roaring thunder in this painting
A noise to fill your head completely,
but paint the birds as if they don't care.
Let the waves make all the noise they want
The birds will eat, then take off into the cold blue sky.
